Clogged toilets can be very annoying and unsanitary. Here are some tips on fixing your clogged toilets without calling a plumber:

  • The Plunger

Using a plunger will fix most clogged toilets. Make sure to get a heavy-duty plunger with an extended flange. This will create enough suction to loosen the obstruction. Also be weary of plunging to hard and splashing dirty toilet water all over yourself.

  • Hot Water

Pour hot water into your toilet bowl. Make sure to put enough hot water into the bowl to change the temperature of the water existing water significantly. Let the water sit for a few minutes and flush to see if the clog was broken up.

  • Wire Hanger

Straighten out a wire hanger and stick it into the clogged toilet drain. Be careful not to scratch the porcelain.

  • The Plumbing Snake

Insert the plumbing snake into your toilet and feed it through the drain. Keep feeding it through the clogged toilet until the obstruction is removed and the water drains through.

  • Chemicals

You can get toilet drain chemicals from any local grocery store. This approach is very harmful to the environment and hazardous to your health. If you decide to use chemicals, make sure to wear gloves because it can cause damage to your skin. Don’t use the plunger after pouring chemicals your clogged toilet to avoid the chemicals splashing on you.

  • Enzymes

Enzymes also help break down obstructions from your clogged toilet drain. You can get them from most home improvement stores. It’s important to know that enzymes only break up organic materials and usually take over night to work.

  • The Vacuum

Stick your vacuum cleaner hose and suck the obstruction out of the toilet drain. Make sure that the vacuum you use is a wet/dry vacuum. The downside to this method is cleaning out your vacuum later!

Call the plumber and don't waste time. The joint is lakeing and some thing has the pipe badly stopped. If running the drain cleaners through and the hot water (boiling would dissolve grease and at least move it) didn't help you have a more serious problem. If it is showing through the bricks then it is a more serious problem because of the possible damage to flooring and inside walls due to water damage to the structure. If it is the one sink doing it then don't use it and see what they (the plumber) can do but either way minimize or stop using that drain until the leak is fixed. The problem could actually be in the main line out rather then that one joint; you can check that by not using that drain but running a load of clothes through and seeing if you have any leakage-if that is true then the main line or a major line is clogged and they will need to run a drain snake through it but you still still get the joint repaired. The pressure of the plunger should not cause the joint to leak and once it starts it won't stop completely; if it is minor it might not leak any more because water won't back up to it but anytime the water backs up it will so you could continue to damage the frame of your house until it is actually fixed.
