Eat your Way to Hydrated Skin

We all suffer from it at one time or another. Dry skin can be caused by a change in humidity, exposure to cold air, wearing make up, sun exposure, certain soaps and pollution in the air and the water you drink. Before you invest in an expensive lotion that could potentially be full of harmful chemicals try these simple, safe organic home skin treatments that replenish moisture to your skin.

- Fruity Smoothie. Mash a ripe banana with grape seed oil and apply the goo onto your face and neck. Let it set for 5 minutes and then rinse the mash off. Grape seed oil is also known to be a natural skin hydrator and bananas have essential vitamins that help refresh your skin.
- A Nutty Concoction. You can also try mashing 5 tablespoons of peanuts with milk and a teaspoon of honey into a paste. Let this mixture dry on your skin and then wash it off with cold water.
- Make it fishy. Eating fish, particularly salmon, helps to naturally replenish moisture to your skin. Fish contains oils such as omega-3 fatty acids that hydrate and nourish your skin.
- Eat your broccoli. Dry skin can also be caused by vitamin E, A and B deficiencies due to a poor diet. Simply adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet while avoiding alcohol and caffeine will naturally hydrate you and your skin.
- Wake up with the rooster. Mix an egg yolk, 1 teaspoon of orange juice, 1 teaspoon of olive oil, 3 drops of rose water and 3 drops of lime juice. Rub this mixture on your face in the morning and rinse with lukewarm water.
- Lather up. Before you go to bed at night soak your face in lukewarm water for 10 minutes and then massage a little olive or almond oil into your skin. This replenishes oil that your oil glands are not releasing into your skin.
