Even if you are living on a budget you still want to live in a place that looks nice and is decorated fashionably. I managed to move into my new apartment without going broke by following these easy decorating tips.
Order Magazines.
Sign up for the free catalogs from your favorite furniture and decorating stores. It is ok if they are above your price range, you are just looking. Order catalogs from the Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, and IKEA among others. You can normally go to a store’s website and request a catalog by mail.
Make a Decorating Notebook
Go through the catalogs and cut out everything that you would like to have in your home. Glue them in a notebook or on blank pages of paper and write down what it is you like about each picture and what room and where you would like the item.
Take your decorating notebook along with you to cheaper stores where they sell furniture. Wal-Mart and Target for example. Look for furniture that resembles that which is in your decorating notebook. You will find items for half the price as in the magazines.
You might even be able to purchase some of the things you like from IKEA’s catalog at your local IKEA store or online. IKEA is relatively cheap since they make you assemble everything yourself.
Be wise in your investments.
Invest in neutral colors for big items such as bedding, couches, chairs and wall color. This helps your furniture and room be more changeable to the seasons, your moods, location and trends. For example, with a beige couch and light colored wall you can change your accent pillows, throws and wall décor as you see fit. Purchasing accents rather than a new couch or new wall color every year is definitely a price saver.
Budget
Remember to pace yourself when you are decorating a room or moving into a new place. You don’t need to have everything set up right away. Keep your eye out for promotions and deals. Buy the necessary things first and wait for the accent pillows and throws to go on sale.
