Avoid drought stress that weakens trees, leaving them more susceptible to pests and diseases. Roots capable of water absorption in MATURE trees are located toward the drip line (reach of the crown) and beyond and not near base of tree. NEWLY planted trees SHOULD be watered close to their trunks as well as further away from their trunks.
