Scratches can make your furniture look shabby. Avoiding hiring a professional refinisher and touch up your favorite wood furnishings yourself with these quick and easy furniture repair tips.
- Remove residue rings by using corn oil.
Forgot to use a coaster? There is an easy way to repair the damage a cup can leave on wood furniture. Wet a paper town with corn oil and rub it over the residue ring until it disappears. Wipe down with a clean rag or paper towel to clean up any excess oil.
- Dye scratches invisible with black tea.
Place a black tea bag on a plate and drop a few tablespoons of hot water onto the bag and let it seep for 2 to 3 minutes. The more time tea seeps the darker it will be, so try and match the tea color to the shade of your wood furniture.
Dip a cotton swab or Q-tip into the tea and dab it onto the scratches. Wipe away any access to prevent stains around the scratched area. You may need to dab the tea onto the scratch more than once if the wood is a dark color. Once the tea dries your scratches will not longer be visible.
- Wipe scratches with iodine.
Wipe a cotton swab or Q-tip dabbed in iodine onto a scratch on dark wood furniture. Wipe away any access so as not to stain the rest of the furniture surface. The scratch should disappear before your eyes.
