All dishwashers eventually get to the point where they no longer work well. Avoid wasting your time and money rewashing dishes or buying new dishwashers. Try these tips to clean your dishwasher to keep it healthy and able to get those dishes sparkling the first time around. 
Sometimes the water ports can become clogged, preventing the full amount of water to spray out onto your dishes. Try cleaning these holes with pipe cleaner.
Fill the soap dispenser with 1 tablespoon of citric acid from your local pharmacy or an orange flavored drink mix. Run a cycle with no dishes inside your dishwasher and your machine should be as good as new.
- Baking Soda to the Rescue
Place a bowl or plate of baking soda in the utensil container or on the floor of the dishwasher under the bottom rack. Let it sit for a full 24 hours, and any unpleasant smells will be eliminated.
If you have dishes with dried, crusty food or a smelly odor such as sour milk, sprinkle ¼ cup of baking soda on the floor of the dishwasher. The baking soda not only removes smells but also helps your dishwasher soften and remove food stuck on plates.
Give your dishwasher a boost by rinsing your plates before you load them. Putting dishes in your machine with chunks of food still on them not only makes your machine work harder than normal but also clogs your the water ports and drain.
