Checking the growth of vigorous fruit trees to encourage the bearing of fruit. This operation is usually performed in May, and can be done by removing two half-rings of bark, about ½” wide and 4” apart, on opposite side of the trunk, and then covering the wounds with tree wound paint or white lead paint.
