Rich, moist, well-drained organic soil with a ph 5.5-6.5. Prefers partial shade to shade (2 1/2 hrs. morning sun/afternoon shade). Needs protection from hot sun. Bluer hostas need more shade to retain a true blue color. Yellow and white require more sun. Thicker leaved hosta will tolerate more sun compared to thin leaved variety.
