Moist soil for long periods of time, rot can happen on the underside. Soft sunken spots form and cause complete collapse of the fruit. Prop pumpkins up off ground so they are not in contact with moist soil. Be careful and don't break vines or crack the stems. If that happens, you will lose the fruit.
