Answers to job interview questions

Job interview is a stressful event. And not knowing what interviewers might ask can add more pressure. The more prepared you are, the more successful you will be during the interview.

Here are a few most asked questions during a face-to-face or phone interview:

  • Tell us about yourself. This question sounds very easy. You tell them about your educational background, your work history, and your hobbies. But when it comes to judging your answer, interviewers usually want to hear how your knowledge and professional experience is suited for the company. They want to know in what way you can help them reach their goals. When answering this question, try to use sentences like, “At school I studied business writing which is very beneficial for your company…….” or “From my past employment I learned how to deal with difficult customers. I know this position deals a lot with customer service issues, so I can assure you ……”
  • What do you know about our company? Sometimes an interview starts off when you have been asked whether or not you know anything about the company. The biggest mistake of all would be to say “not really” or just to say that you are familiar with the company’s work. You need to prepare for this question ahead of time.  When you are asked this question, try to tell them a few facts about the company. For example, compliment them on their achievements or important work they have done. Showing the interviewers that you know about the company will give you a few extra points and give you the edge over other job seekers.
  • Where do you see yourself in 1 and 5 years? By asking this question, interviewers want to know your plans and goals in life. When you are answering this, keep in mind the nature of the business. If the organization has business environment, tell them that in that period of time you will achieve some of your personal goals, and will have enough business knowledge that would make you a valuable employee.
