Here are some tips on how to successfully study for college tests. Good college study skills are essential for good grades, honors and access to good jobs. The following are tried and true methods that got me good grades in college. When I followed these tricks I did well in my classes, and you will too!
Attend class
Don’t blow off class. Learning in context as the professor teaches is easier than trying to learn from a textbook alone. Listening to the lecture invokes auditory learning. Looking at PowerPoint presentation slides and in class videos assist in visual learning. Attending class is the best way to learn the information that you will later be tested on.
Take notes
Taking notes while in class reinforces knowledge and helps you to retain the information on a long term basis. Putting what you hear and see in class down on paper in your own words will help you to remember the information being taught. Use good hand writing so you can read your writing later. I have found that it helps to take notes in outline form.
Review as you learn
Once a week go over your class notes and review what you have learned so you don’t forget it. Highlight important information with a marker or colored pen. This way you never have to cram for a test and relearn information. Instead, you simply and quickly review your notes and what you have already learned.
