Well-composted soil with high organic matter. If your soil drains poorly, plant in raised beds. If in cooler climate, prepare rows and cover with black plastic 2-4 weeks, in sunny weather, before planting to help warm soil for early crops. When ready to sow, remove plastic. Choose a site that has some wind. Corn needs wind for pollination.
