Actively growing. They like well-drained soil, rich in organic material. In warm climates, mix a slow-release fertilizer into soil at planting time. Add light balanced fertilizer 10-10-10 or 5-10-10 in late fall, early spring. Do not over fertilize or use a high-nitrogen formula. They will bloom as long as temperature is above freezing.
