Choose plants that don’t need more fertilizer than what’s added at planting such as nasturtium, cleome, portulacas, amaranthus and cosmos. Choose low-maintenance plants with flowers that fall cleanly from the plant such as begonias, impatiens, coleus, alyssum, ageratum, lobelia, vinca and salvia.
