Bathroom mold is very unsightly and can also be a health risk. Follow these steps for effective bathroom mold removal:
Partially clogged drains may be allowing mold to grow in your shower or sink. Check to see if your shower drain or sink is draining slowly. Stagnant water is a perfect breeding environment for mold. Remove the drain covers and clean out all of the build-up that is causing the clog. Use bleach solution to unclog the drain if you need to.
Clear all bathroom products from your sink and bathroom. Scrub down the counters, shower floor, tile, and the bathroom floor. Use a bleach solution or white vinegar/water mixture (non-toxic) to kill mold in the affected areas. Make sure to thoroughly wipe down the entire bathroom after you clean. Always remember: wet areas are the perfect breeding ground for mold. Keep your bathroom dry and don’t give the mold a friendly environment to grow.
Mold will also grow and accumulate on bathroom products that sit in wet areas in your bathroom. These include shampoo/conditioner bottles, facial cleansers, shaving cream etc. Make sure to put all of your bathroom products on dry shelves and wipe them down after use. Also put away the products you don’t use often. Discard all empty or near-empty bottles that have been sitting in your shower/sink area that are collecting mold.
It might be necessary to remodel areas of your bathroom if the mold is severe. Tear out decrepit caulking and install new sealing. Remove crystal bathroom fixtures that are moldy. Replace them with solid bathroom fixtures that don’t allow mold to grow beneath the surface (they look more modern too). You can also install a solid-piece shower/tube insert instead of tile. These inserts are usually inexpensive and simple to install. Solid-piece inserts are also easier to keep clean because they are plastic.
