An aluminum t-square will help you measure out the pieces of drywall and allow you cut straight lines. Get the longest and sturdiest t-square you can find (usually 48”).
You will need a small handsaw. This will help you cut out various holes in the drywall for utility plates and outlets.
Drywall hammers are specifically designed for drywall installation. These hammers have a convex head that is serrated to better grip the drywall nail. It also has an axe-shaped end that can also be used to cut various holes in the drywall for utility plates. Use a screw gun or a Phillips-head screwdriver if you are using drywall screws for installation.
A taping knife will help you spread the mud (joint compound) into the joints and nail/screw indentations. Taping knife come in various sizes depending on the amount area you need to cover (5”-12”).
You will also need sandpaper to sand down the mud after it dries. This will allow you to blend the mud on the drywall so there are no visible joints/imperfections. Use medium-grit sand paper (80-grit). Make sure to get mask to protect your lungs. Sanding drywall in a closed space creates a great deal of dust in the air that you don’t want to breathe in!
