Growth begins. Blueberries bear fruit on the previous year's wood. They bear best on young branches that are sending out vigorous new growth each season. The main goal of pruning is to keep the bush well supplied with young, fruitful branches. After wood becomes 4 years old, it has lost its vigor and won't produce as well.
