Some houseplants will root from stems placed in water but….

Keeping the leaves dry can be a problem. Solve it by covering the top of a glass of water with a piece of aluminum foil. Punch holes in the foil and drop the stems through the holes. That keeps them upright with their bottoms wet and leaves in the air while the new roots form.
