  2. Send away for and follow up with all rebates!  Send in your rebate form the day your purchase the item.  Then, make sure that you mark your calendar to remember to follow up with the company.  For a rebate $2 - $100 - this is an easy way to get your money back for a product.
  3. Refinance your mortgage - even if its only by 1%, its worth it to refinance!  This saves tons of money in the long run.
  4. Get your books/DVDs from the library.  Best part about this is that it is 100% free! Just make sure to return your books/DVDs by the due date to avoid late fees.
  5. Request a reduction in interest charges from your credit card company.  Honestly, the worst they can say is no - so why not give it a try!  This will save a considerable about of money in interest.
  6. Better yet - pay off your credit card bill (or as much as possible) to avoid paying interest.
  7. Magazine subscriptions.  Most subscriptions cost what two magazines at the grocery store cost.  If you purchase magazines on a regular basis, check out subscribing.  Amazon periodically offers $5 - $10 yearly subscriptions on popular magazines each month.
  8. Increase insurance deductibles.  If you do not need that $100 deductible, raise it to $250 or $500 or more (depending on your comfort level).  This saves extra each month.
  9. Get rid of your home telephone number.  With mobile phone plans including free long distance and free night/weekend minutes - there is no need for that extra phone.  This could save you $15-30 a month, depending on your plan!
  10. Shut vents in unused rooms - why heat a room that you are not using?

  12. Cancel health club memberships.   Evaluate how often you actually go to the gym.  If its daily - keep it.  If its monthly - maybe this is a way that you can cut back.  Go outside and take a walk - free and gets you outside!
  13. Pass on extended warranties.  Why pay $150 for extended coverage on your $250 digital camera?  It would almost be cheaper to replace if something should happen.  And - you may never even use the insurance before your upgrade.
  14. Take advantage for 401k matches - contribute the maximum amount that your employer will agree to match - free money!
