Aphids and spider mites. Pick them off by hand or wash them off the pants with a targeted stream of water from a spray bottle. Do this during the day so any residual water evaporates quickly. Regular watering and fertilizing can control insects. Fertilizing strengthens the plant. Watering helps counteract hot, dry weather that creates prime conditions for insect pests.
