Looking for casting calls in your area is a great way to help your teenager get started in the entertainment industry. Here some tips I know on finding casting calls for teens:
Actor’s Access (actorsaccess.com) is a great way to find casting calls for teenagers. It is a website where you can create a personal profile by uploading headshots, resume, and download demo reels. Actor’s Access allows you to view publically released roles for television, film, commercials, and modeling for multiple cities in North America (Los Angeles, New York, Vancouver, Toronto, Chicago). An annual membership to Showfax Inc. (sister company of Actor’s Access) enables you to electronically submit for roles through Actor’s Access an unlimited amount of times (for an annual fee). Showfax membership also gives you access to download scripts for auditions and sends you email alerts when you are called in for an audition.
Casting Networks Los Angeles/New York is a great resource for casting calls for teens in the Los Angles and New York area. You can make an online profile through castingnetworks.com with your headshots, resume, and demo reel. An annual membership to Casting Networks enables you to electronically submit your profile to publically released roles much like Actor’s Access, although they focus mainly on commercials and background roles.
Now Casting (nowcasting.com) is another personal-profile website similar to Actor’s Access and Casting Networks that allows you to electronically submit for roles for an annual fee. This website primarily focuses on the Los Angeles area. Now Casting posts roles for film, television, commercials, and background work. This website tends to not have as many postings as Actor’s Access and Casting Networks and usually receives their casting notices later than it’s competitors. The benefit to this website is that it allows you to upload multiple headshots for free.
Backstage.com is an online publication that is geared towards newcomers in the entertainment industry. An annual membership to the website gives you access to casting notices in multiple areas of the country (although they mostly focus on Los Angeles and New York area).
Try doing a Google search for open casting calls for teens in your area. This is riskier because you might come across some sham websites. You can find some legitimate open calls by doing a Google search but you must have good discernment. Disney often posts open calls for their television shows and movies. Check bulletin boards at local schools, theaters, and coffee shops. Big budget movies will often hold open casting calls in the area they are filming (Twilight: Eclipse open call in Vancouver e.g.). Beware of open calls posted on Craigslist. Some casting calls on Craigslist have been legitimate but there have also been many shams!
