There are basic repairs you can make to your old home to give it vibrant and modern touch. Here are some do-it-yourself repair tips to give your old home a fresh look:

Replace the old flooring with new hardwood flooring laminate. Hardwood laminate will give the room a sophisticated look and isn’t as labor-intensive as installing real hardwood flooring. Make sure let the hardwood laminate acclimatize in the room for at least 48 hours before installing. Another benefit of hardwood floor laminate is that it can be installed on any pre-existing material with a flat surface (linoleum, tile, concrete).
Paint the rooms of your old house in colors that accent the furniture and the flooring. This will give your house personality and allow you to use the paint color to set a certain mood in each room. Use a coat of primer to ensure that the paint will stand out and last long.
Add modern window treatments to give your rooms a fresh look. Install modern curtain rods with window curtains that match/accent your furniture, wall paint, and flooring. You can also install wood blinds for your smaller windows to add a warm feel to any room.
Install modern light, wall, and doorknob fixtures in your home. Modern bathroom fixtures (metallic) are more difficult to install yourself but will give your bathrooms a very contemporary look.
Apply a couple coats of new paint to the exterior of your house. Chip away old paint and add a coat of primer if the exterior paint is really out of shape. Trim the lawn/edge the lawn, pull weeds, and add plant fresh flowers. This will make your house look very manicured and give it a great deal of curb appeal.
