They continue to grow all season and must be prevented from laying on the ground where they are vulnerable to rotting. They need to be supported with basic stakes and twine or with wire “cages” five feet tall and 12-30 inches in diameter (fasten the cages on both sides with short takes to prevent them from falling over).
