Most school programs don’t have the funds to function without additional fundraising. The following is a list of the 5 most fun and effective fundraising ideas for schools and their various programs.

Sell and Send Holiday grams

Sending holiday grams is a fun way to celebrate the holiday season and make money simultaneously. Have each student sell at least 5 Christmas grams to family and friends for $10 each. The people who buy a Christmas gram can write out a personalized message to be delivered via phone to their loved one. Have your students prepare a song celebrating the Holidays to sing in the gram. Have the teacher call the number given on the Christmas gram and when the person answers or the answering machine beeps, everyone breaks into song singing the Christmas tune over the speaker phone. At the end of the song the teacher or one of the students reads the personalized message.

Hold a Bake Sale

Throwing a bake sale is one of the most popular and successful ways to raise funds for schools. Each student should bake treats with the help of their parents. Parents and student then sell the baked goods at a particular event with a sign saying which program in the school people will be supporting if they buy the baked goods. You can hold a bake sale at sports games, school musical concerts, alumni reunions, grocery stores (with the grocery store permission of course) and at local farmer’s markets.

Throw a “-thon”

Whether it is a walk-a-thon, jog-a-thon, bike-a-thon or read-a-thon, “thons” are fun for kids to participate in, encourage healthy activities and raise money for your school programs. Choose an activity to do that your students will enjoy.  Have them go to their friends and family and ask for pledges. People will donate to the school $5 for every book their student representative reads, $10 for every mile the student walks, etc.

Host a Car Wash

This is a great way to make money and a wonderful way to bond your student group together. Preferably choose a hot day to hold a car wash. Choose a place off a busy street with access to water spigots where many people will be able to see you. Have the students make big signs that say Car Wash and list the price of a car wash. Make sure it is cheaper than mechanical car washes nearby.

Sell Raffle Tickets

Holding a fundraising raffle is fun for the entire community. Have your students go to local business to ask for raffle prizes in exchange for advertising at the raffle event. You will be surprised at how many companies will jump at the chance for relatively cheap advertising.  Sell raffle tickets for the donated items. Again you can have a raffle sale at any school event such as a sports competitions, music concerts or alumni gatherings.
