Preplant herbicides are used before you set out vegetables, bedding plants, or ornamentals. Preemergence herbicides kill weed seeds as they germinate. Contact herbicides kill weeds onto which they are sprayed or sprinkled. Translocated herbicides contain an active ingredient that, when absorbed by a weed, moves to another part of the plant and interferes with its metabolism, causing the weed’s death.
