If you are engaged to be married to a citizen of the UK, you must apply for the UK Fiance Visa before you my move to the UK and marry your betrothed.  Before you begin the application process it is best to understand how exactly the UK Fiance Visa works.

You must meet the UK fiance visa requirements.

In order to be issued the UK fiancé visa you must meet certain standards and be able to provide proof that these requirements have been met. You must prove that you intend to marry a UK citizen within 6 months after receiving your visa. You can do this by showing a ring, bring along engagement or wedding announcements, and have your fiancé present during your interview.

You must also prove that you have met one another in person.  If your fiancé is with you at the interview this should not be a big problem. However it is best to bring along plane tickets, pictures and video of you together to prove that you have met. You must plan on permanently living together with satisfactory housing ready for you to move in to together. You can bring a lease along with you to prove this.  You must also be able to support one another without any public assistance.  Bring proof of regular wages, stocks, trust funds, bonds and anything else that can prove your financial independence.

You must understand the conditions of the UK fiance visa.

When you are granted a fiancé visa you must understand what is required of you for the next two and a half years. The UK fiance visa allows foreigners to enter and remain in the UK for 6 months. Within that time you must marry your betrothed UK citizen.  While you are in the UK on the fiancé visa you are not allowed to work.  Once you are married you must apply for a UK marriage visa which grants you two years to live with your partner and work within the UK.  If you are still married and live together after this 2 year period you may apply for an Indefinite Leave to Remain, also known as an ILR, which allows you to remain in the UK indefinitely.
