You will want to place a "cutworm collar" around the stem of your tomato plant where it goes into the soil. Use a strip of newspaper or an old cardboard toilet paper roll holder. Cutworms chew along the surface. A thin strip of newspaper or cardboard around the plant stem will stop cutworms from chewing through the stem.
