Here are a few tips in order to save on your upcoming honeymoon!
1) Research, research, research! Look for the best deals early! Do not wait until the last minute to start planning your honeymoon. In all honesty, start researching your honeymoon as soon as your main wedding planning duties are complete. Timing is everything. If you are traveling south of the equator...remember, summer in the Northern Hemisphere is winter in the Souther Hemisphere. Booking a vacation in a tropical local in their "winter" my result in a dramatic price decrease!

2) Also, if possible, avoid traveling during prime seasons. You will be paying top dollar for your travel AND going right in the middle of the rush. Do you want to share your honeymoon with screaming kids? I think not. Consider taking your honeymoon a few months after your wedding. It will be something else to look forward to, and you have plenty of time to get settled after your wedding, so you do not come back to a house full of gifts to put away and thank you notes to write.
3) House swaps. There are plenty of on line communities devoted to house swaps. Sure, you may think that your house in Southwest Virginia is not appealing, but for someone that lives in the Bahamas, it may be! There may be a nominal fee for the swap, but more than likely, all you will have to pay will be for food & travel expenses!
4) Do not go with the "trends". Trendy resorts tend to be more expensive. Look for places off of the beaten path.
5) Sign up for EVERY sweepstakes offer. I know what you are thinking, who wins those things? I know for certain that people win fabulous prizes and trips in magazine sweepstakes. Brides Magazine posts a trip in ever issue that someone can win for free. Sure - do not bank on this option for your honeymoon, but hey, you never know. You may get a free tux rental or bridesmaids dress out of it!
