If your plant needs to be pruned….

Check its flowering time first. You don't want to accidentally prune off the flowers. Two general rules of thumb are: spring flowering shrubs should be pruned after flowering and summer flowering shrubs should be pruned in the fall or winter. There are some exceptions to this, such as hydrangeas, but the above rules apply to most shrubs.
