Becoming a Christian means, literally, to become a follower of Jesus Christ. What does this mean?
You believe Jesus is who he said he is. That is, he is the Son of God and equal with God, and the Savior of mankind.
You believe Jesus is Lord of all. You believe that God created the world, and that he reigns over the whole universe.
You believe that humanity cannot atone for its own sin. We cannot save ourselves: we desperately need a Savior and Redeemer.
You believe in the gospel, the good news that Jesus died to atone for the sins of humankind. He came to earth as a man, fully Man and fully God, and then was crucified for the sins of the world.
You believe that Jesus was resurrected from the dead, that he is alive, and that he now is sovereign over everything. Jesus Christ conquered death and inaugurated a new era of transforming grace.
You believe in the Apostle's Creed. This historical confession of the faith is a succinct summary of basic Christian beliefs.
You commit your life to Christ. You try to know him, learn about him, and follow his commands in the midst of a grace-filled life. You believe that only in giving up our lives to Jesus Christ can we really, truly live.
