Paint over wallpaper

Painting over wallpaper seems strange but what if you have multiple layers of wallpaper and removing them might damage the wall? One solution is to paint over the wallpaper.

Here are a few tips how to paint over wallpaper:

• Remove any loose paper from the wall. Before you begin to paint over the wallpaper, you should prepare the walls. The first thing you need to do is to remove all loose paper by peeling it off the wall. If you have some loose material that you can’t remove, you should instead glue it to the wall with adhesive.
• Sand the paper seems. The second step is to sand the wallpaper seems. For sanding you can use regular sanding paper. You would have to sand seems until you can’t feel them. If you created deep holes when you peeled old wallpaper, then you should patch them first with cement and let them dry before sanding it. You should protect your carpet and furniture from dust before sanding. Also, you should wear dust mask and safety glasses to protect yourself.  
• Prime the wall before putting on the paint. Once sanding is done and the wall is smooth, you should use one coat of primer. It is a good idea to prime the wall first because it will show all imperfections that weren’t correctly patched or sanded. If you see an area that you missed, you should patch it or sand it again. After finishing, prime the wall again.
• Paint wall. Before putting the final coat of paint, you should carefully inspect the wall again. Once your wall passes the inspection it is time to paint.  Paint it like you would normally paint a wall.
