If you found mold in your house, you should take immediate actions. Mold is a cause of serious health problems. The longer you wait, the worse the conditions could get. Although you should remove any mold regardless of its kind, not every mold is the same.
Here are a few kinds of mold you might encounter:
- Allergenic Mold. Allergenic mold is a type of mold that is not dangerous for humans if it is in small amounts. This type of mold can be cleaned with general cleaning supplies. When trying to remove any kinds of mold, you should wear respiratory mask and gloves. People who have contact with allergenic mold for a long period of time can develop several respiratory diseases such as asthma, aspergillosis, and allergic rhinitis.
- Pathogenic Mold. Pathogenic mold is moderately dangerous for humans. It produces some type of infection. This group of mold can cause many immune system problems even in healthy people. People with suppressed immune system, such as infants and children, should not have any contact with pathological mold; otherwise, the contact might have serious consequences.
- Toxic Mold. Toxic mold is one of the most dangerous mold groups. When toxic mold found, appropriate evaluation should be made by professionals and immediate actions should be taken. Humans who were exposed to toxic mold even for a short period of time can develop some health problems ranging from rush to immune suppressions.
- Indoor Mold. There are several indoor molds:
- Aspergillus Mold: Aspergillus mold got its name after Aspergillus disease caused by this indoor mold. This type of mold is usually dangerous for people whose immune system is already weak such infants, children, elderly, and people who have immune deficiency. The most common place where Aspergillus mold is found is on grains.
- Cladosporium Mold: Cladosporium mold grows inside and outside of the house. The natural habitat of this mold is around soil and decaying plants. Cladosporium mold can also grow after other molds already invaded the house wall space. Even though this type of mold is not harmful to humans, people with immune deficiencies should avoid any contact.
- Stachybotrys atra Mold: Stachybotrys atra mold, also known as black mold, can be found growing on materials that are high in cellulose, such as wood and drywall. Even though this kind of mold is not as dangerous as other types of mold, inhaling Stachybotrys atra mold for a long period of time can cause health problems.
