Tips for keeping awake while driving

After years of spending many tired days behind the wheel, I have come up with tips to help any driver stay more awake than drinking a Red Bull!
When you start to feel your eyes get tired, turn up the music!
When you start to feel your eyes get tired, turn
up the music!

Keep the car at a cool temperature
Warm air can make you drowsy and less attentive; keep the car at a cool temperature to stay awake.  Even if you are a little chilly, have the AC blasting.  It will keep you more alert and awake.  In the winter, crack your window a little bit to let the cold air in and wake you up.  Don’t have the heat on too high. The warm air will make your eyes more tired.

Turn up your favorite song
Before you make your trip, have an ipod playlist or CD with you current favorite songs.  When you start to feel your eyes get tired, turn up the music!  The louder the better!  Blasting your favorite tunes will only make you want to sing at the top of your lungs and will get your energy going!

Eat sunflower seeds
I know…it sounds weird!  But, I promise this works!  Pull over and get a bag of sunflower seeds! Concentrating on breaking the sunflower shell apart and spitting the shell in a cup (or out the window) distracts you from wanting to fall asleep.  If you need a little more activity, see how many you can pop in your mouth and crack open in one minute.

Pull over and power nap
If you decide to try this; make sure you are somewhere safe and where you are not alone. Lock the doors, recline your seat, and shut your eyes.  A ten-minute power nap could be all you need.
