Whether you're new in town and lonely, or you need to look up a long lost acquaintance, finding friends can be a challenge.
If you're new in town, follow these tips:
1) Go where the people are.
2) Don't be afraid to talk to people, to say hi, to smile. Strike up a conversation.
Here are some places and ideas for finding people with common interests:
Church. Visit churches in your area; attend gatherings and see
Join a club. Whether it's a hiking club, a dance group, a reading club, or a Rotary branch, jump into a group that does an activity you enjoy, and you'll find others who enjoy it as well.
Attend a show, fair, or festival. Go to the concerts and shows and booths that you are interested in, and converse with the people who are also there.
If you're looking for someone you knew long ago, check out these avenues of discovery:
Online people searches. Check out the sites Pipl.com, Superpages.com, and 911.com.
Google it. Google the name of your friend in quotes as well as any keywords that they would be associated with. You may be able to find traces of their whereabouts by finding their website, or a news article where they are quoted, or their business site.
Facebook. Nowadays people are connecting with old classmates and more over this booming social networking site. You can also check out Classmates.com, Myspace, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
Look up friends of friends. Look up people who also knew your friend; they may be able to direct you to the right trail.
Look up online newspapers. Browse the wedding announcements; if you're searching for a woman, she may have a different name now.
Low-cost sites. You must pay a fee for the services of some sites such as Intelius, NewspaperArchive, Jigsaw.com, and ReferenceUSA.
Other sites. If no recent information turns up, the person you are searching for may have passed away. Search Rootsweb.com and Tributes.com for their name.
Hire a P.I. If absolutely nothing turns up, consider hiring a professional detective or someone from a person-search firm. Check out XooxleAnswers.com and Uclue.com.
