Whether it's Father's Day or your Dad's birthday, consider these ideas to help you give your dad the perfect gift.
What does he like? What sort of guy is he? Is he the hunting and fishing sort? Travel enthusiast? Techno-geek? Intellectual? Historical buff? Theater and movie maven? Music aficionado? Wine and gourmet food connoisseur?
Follow his interests. After you've narrowed down a category of his interests, shop around at stores that would carry items that cater to those interests. Hunting and fishing? See Cabela's. Travel enthusiast? Check out a map store. Techno-geek? Go to Best Buy or another gadget gallery. Intellectual or history buff? Browse the bookstore. Coffee lover? Get him the best and biggest stash. Also consider getting him a an experience: a season pass to the slopes, the golf course, or the concert hall; a ticket to an art exhibit or sports game; a certificate for dinner at the swankiest place in town.
Tools and gadgets. Nearly every man likes tools or gadgets of some sort, whether it's a new pocket knife, an iPhone, a Kindle, a new camera, the Zippo-style cigarette lighter, a handheld GPS, a birdcall, or duct tape.
Remembrances. Make a scrapbook or photo album chronicling the best times you've had together throughout the past. Write a tribute to him, telling him what you appreciate most about him and recounting some of your fondest memories.
Spoil him. Make him his favorite breakfast, take him to his favorite getaway, dine at his choice restaurant, and then enjoy his favorite evening activity with him: cards, movie, reading, running, conversation.
Say thank you. Don't just say this in a card. Say it to him out loud, and through whatever actions that seem appropriate.
