Planning fun games will make your Christmas party lively and break the ice between guests who may not know each other. Here are some games for Christmas parties that are relatively easy to plan:
You can play a holiday version of rock, paper, scissors. Substitute these for Santa, reindeer, and elf. To give the game the same properties as the original, have Santa trump elf, elf trump reindeer, and reindeer trump Santa (if you have a problem with a reindeer trumping Santa, think of him as Rudolph). Instead of making the symbols on your hands like rock, paper, scissors, have the players act out the characters they play with their whole body. This will definitely get your guests laughing.
Print off a small picture of Santa. Fold up the picture and give it to one of your guests at the beginning of the party. Have everyone submit their guess on who the “Secret Santa” is (with their name and their guess on a piece of paper). At the end of the party announce who the Santa is and give a small prize to anyone who guessed the right answer. It is a good idea to make the Santa someone you trust not to cheat the game and give away his identity to one of his/her friends.
Hide various Christmas items throughout your house. Divide your guests into teams and give each a list of items to find throughout your home. Try to pair people together who don’t know each other or who you may want to “set up” (and separate people who don’t like each other). Have the first team to recover all the items get a special prize. This will get everyone’s competitive spirit going and can serve as a great icebreaker. Make sure not to hide items near places in your home that you may not want your guests or friends of guests to go (kid’s bedroom, private cabinets, etc.).
Write down various Christmas characters and items on separate pieces of paper and put them in a hat. Divide your guest into two teams and play Christmas charades. Some guests may feel too uncomfortable to play, but charades is a very entertaining game to watch and they will definitely get a kick out of watching other guests make a fool of themselves!
Print sheets of paper with the letters A-Z. Pass out the sheets and have your guests come up with Christmas items starting with each letter in the alphabet. The guest with the most words wins. You can also make this game easier by including Hanukkah items.
