Learning how to burn a DVD on your Apple computer will allow you to make a hard copy of a home movie or video. Here is a guide for burning a DVD for your Mac:
Click the Finder icon on your dock. Go to Applications and click on iDVD to open the program. When the main menu comes up, select “Create A New Project”. A window will come up asking you to name your new project and will allow you to choose where to store the file (documents, desktop, etc.).
When the formatting window opens it will give you a great deal of menu themes to choose from. The menu themes are in a vertical box on the right side of the window. If the themes are not showing on the right side of the program window, click the “Themes” button on the bottom right corner of the window. Browse all the themes and pick the one that best suits your video content. The theme you select will show in the left box of the program window. You can also change the title of the menu by double-clicking on the default title.
You can add pictures and music to the menu once you have chosen the theme. Click the “Media” button at the bottom right corner of the program window. Hit the photo tab at the top right corner of the window to access the photos on your computer. Drag the photos in the “drop zone” in the left box that displays the theme you chose. Choose the music you want for the menu by selecting the “Audio” tab to access your music files. Drag the music file into the left box to add the music file.
Hit the “Movie” tab to find the movie file that you want to burn to DVD. Make sure the file doesn’t exceed the amount of space allowed on the disc. Drag the movie file into the left window. It will be displayed by the name of the file. You can move the movie title anywhere in the menu and change the font/size so it doesn’t overlap any text or pictures.
Once you are done formatting the menu, you are ready to burn the file onto disc. To burn the disc, click the lense-like button to the right of the “play” button on the bottom-middle part of the program menu. A bell-like sound cue will alert you when the disc has finished burning. Make sure not to remove the disc before the burning is completed to avoid damaging the disc.
