Restoration of old photos can bring new life to old photos. It can also fix accidental damage of photos making memories last longer.
Here are a few ways to restore old photos: 
- Using photo editing software. There are several photo- editing software like Photoshop elements and Paint shop pro that you can use to restore old photos.
- Simple steps with Photoshop elements. If you own Photoshop elements, you can do restoration of old photos by yourself by following these simple steps:
- Scan your old photo.
- Open your photo file with Photoshop elements. Depending on the condition of the photo, you can spend 20 min to 3 hours restoring old photos. Concentrate on one area at a time.
- Zoom in on the area that you want to start restoring. Let’s say, for example, that you want to restore a crack on the picture.
- Click on Healing Brush tool that is on your left.
- Now you need to find a spot on the picture that is in good condition with the same colors as the crack should be. On the keyboard, click Alt and, using computer mouse, navigate to the good color spot. You will be using this color to paint over the crack.
- Once you picked the color, point your brush to a crack and paint over the crack. You don’t have to match all surrounding area of the crack to match the color. Photoshop elements will calculate and adjust the surrounding area’s color so that everything will look the same.
- Repeat steps for any other damages.
- You should do the same technique on the edges of the picture. After you finish restoring, crop the photo for a better look.
- Hire a professional. If you don’t have time for restoring old photos or you don’t have the software that can do that, then you should hire professionals to restore your old photos. There are several websites that can restore old photos: imphotorepair, chamberlainrestoration, dejaviewphotos, and others. The price ranges from $15 to $25 per photo. The only thing you would need to do is to scan the photo and send it to one of the photo restoration shops.
