Keep food cold while defrosting refrigerator or freezer

Put a piece of foil or plastic in the bottom of your washing machine. Cover with ice from trays, place food on top of ice, then close lid. Food will remain cold while you defrost. After returning food to fridge, remove foil/plastic from washer, run hot water over ice and let it spin down the drain.
