When Should You Throw Away Your Make-Up?

If you are spending $25 on a bottle of foundation, you want to make sure that you use every drop before you throw it away. However, if you do not wear tons of make up, and one bottle can last a couple of years...you may want to go on ahead and throw it away.  Make up can ruin and become potentially harmful to you and your health!  Here are a few guidelines on when you should just throw it away!

• First rule - throw anything away that has changed color or consistancy or has a bad odor.
• Most powders, concealers and lip balms contain water, so they can last a few years.
• Cleansers and moisturizes contain fatty acids, which can sour quickly.  Use and replace after six months.
• Those 3 in 1 products (face, lips and eye) are great for fast touch ups and saving money, however, they spread and carry germs.  Wipe the surface before switching areas and replace after six months.
• Pencils can last several years unless you wet the tip with water.  Just to be safe, sharpen before each use.
• Mascara should be thrown away after three months. No excuses. 
• Foundation can last up to a year if you keep fingers away from the bottle.  Use a sponge or foundation brush to apply.
• Keep your cosmetics in a cool, dry place.
