Painting a ceiling can be a difficult task. If you have a textured ceiling, this can become stressful. However, by using the right tools and techniques, painting a ceiling might be easier than you think.
Here are a few steps how to paint a ceiling:
- Choose the right colors. Choosing the right colors for the ceiling is the first step. There are many shades of the same color and even white can look different. Try to buy enough paint at one time to cover the whole ceiling; otherwise, you might end up with different shades. Also, many people don’t like pure white color because it requires more than 2 coats of paint. The majority of white ceiling paints have a little of brown umber tint in them, making the color slightly grayish white. It looks white, but if you compare it with white paper, you will notice that the ceiling white color is different.
- Prepare the room. When preparing the ceiling for painting, you should try to remove all the furniture. If you can’t remove something from the room, move it so that you have access to every area of the ceiling. Cover it with plastic. Use the construction drop cloth to cover the floor of the room. Try to tape it to the wall if possible, so that the cloth doesn’t move when you are walking on it.
- Use masking tape for corners and walls. After you moved the furniture, you should use wide masking tape on the edges of the walls and corners. By applying masking tape, you will protect walls from accidently being painted.
- Find the right tools. Painting the ceiling is a difficult process, and using the right painting tools will make the job easier. If it is your first painting job, you should use 9 inch roller frame with the adjustable handle and high density polyester fabric roller cover. If you have a textured ceiling, you should use your roller very slowly; otherwise, you might lose some ceiling texture. If you have done painting before and are not afraid of spray painting, then you should consider spray painting gun. You can rent one at any hardware tool rental places. Spray painting gun will save you time and energy.
- Use protective gear. It is always a good idea to wear a protective gear while you are painting a ceiling. You should use safety glasses and a respirator due to high concentration of paint fumes. Paint fumes can cause headaches and respiratory problems.
- Start painting. Once you prepared the room, got the right painting tools, and put on the protective gear, you are ready to paint. You should start with corners and wall edges where you need to be more careful. Then you can paint the rest of the ceiling.
