Questions to ask your guidance counselor when planning for college

You are a high school junior or senior that is ready to start looking at college.  Where should you start?  What should you do?  How do you get there?  First, go talk to your guidance counselor and ask these important questions to help get you on the right track to finding a college where you will fit in best.

  • What are required courses for college that I should take in high school?
  • When should I take them in order to complete them in time?
  • What elective courses should I take?
  • Should I enroll in AP courses?
  • When should I take the SATs or ACTs?
  • Are there afterschool programs for college prep?
  • Do you have college handbooks for prep books I should review?
  • What should I do this summer?
  • What sort of grades so I need to get in xx college?
  • When is the next college fair?
  • Where do other kids go to college at this high school?
  • How can I get into an honor society here?
  • Do you have any information on exploring my interests?
  • Who should I contact for recommendations?
  • Where can I apply for scholarships?
  • How do I apply for financial aid?
