What is the best decor for your bedroom? Consider these tips to get the best out of your bedchamber.
Brainstorm. Browse interor design magazines and sites such as decor-photos.com for ideas and inspiration. Keep in mind the size of your bedroom and how it is set up: where the closet is, where the window is, etc.
Keep it simple. A crowded space is not a pleasing space. Take out unneeded furniture and accessories and add only what is useful and will fit your decorating theme.
Choose a theme. Rustic or hip, modern or traditional, Victorian or Southwest, English cottage or Parisian, romantic or shabby chic, African or Mediterranean, Asian or Mexican, retro or art deco, Swedish or Moroccan, Scandinavian or tropical jungle, Italian or Americana, black and white or blue and gray, brown and cream or pink and black.
Shop at thrift stores first. After scouting out decorating resources you already own, shop around at thrift stores for inexpensive vintage finds. You don't need to break the bank to get a great bedroom. After exhausting the thrift stores, you can then head to Home Depot or Pier 1 Imports for other things you may need, such as lamps, paint, etc.
Consider the lighting. You'll need different kinds of lighting for different parts of the room. Keep a lamp at your bedside and at your reading nook. Make sure there is lighting also next to your closet. Other parts of the room can be more dimly lighted; without contrast, your room will have a more drab feel.
Make it a retreat. Your bedroom should be the best place in the house for you to relax: after all, it is where you sleep each night. Hang inspiring paintings and photos on the walls: a Parisian café, mountains and rivers, or your favorite animals. Set aside a nook for sitting and reading – perhaps a comfy chair by the windowsill. Remember, your bedroom is your personal space: start with things that comfort you, and go from there.
