Craft projects give kids a chance to exercise their creativity and to experience the sense of accomplishment that comes with building something on their own. Check out these craft ideas for your child.
- The Fabulous Book of Paper Dolls. Great for younger children, this book comes with six dolls to dress and decorate.
- Play-Doh Packed with Fun Bucket. This set not only comes with a lot of Play-Doh, but also shaping utensils and molds.
- Wikki Stix. This versatile yarn product can be used to create a variety of craft projects. Check out the Wikki Stix Tons of Fun set.
- Jewelry/bead kit. Try Melissa & Doug bead sets and Alex Jewelry Kits.
- Clay creations. All you need is a bucket of clay and The Incredible Clay Book, and you're set for hours of creativity.
- Groovy Ceramic Lamp. Your child can decorate this lamp and then enjoy it by his bedside.
- Paint & Pretend Mini Tea Set. Your child can paint and decorate the teacups and then entertain her friends for tea.
- Sewing kit. Start your child on sewing with a beginning sewing kit as well as weaving, knitting, and crocheting kits, such as Harrisville Design's Needlepoint Kit for Kids, 4M Project Kits' Weaving Loom Kit, and Alex Chunky and Funky Scarf Beginner's Knitting Kit.
- Native and historical crafts. Check out Native American and historical books from the library and keep an eye out for workshops on traditional crafts in your area.
- Nature collage. Have your child gather items from nature to glue onto a stiff surface to form a nature collage. She can use pine needles, pinecones, acorns, grass, stones, leaves, gravel, flowers, bark, sticks, moss, and more.
- Leathercraft. Check out leathercraft kits from Standing Bear's Trading Post, the Tandy Leather Factory, or Wylie Leather Works. You'll find numerous options including bookmarks, handbags, fringed purses, billfolds, coin purses, moccasins, holsters, key rings, and suede vests.
- Homemade craft. There's nothing like raw materials to stimulate creativity. Gather together scratch paper, old clothes, cardboard pieces and boxes, glue, crayons, markers, tape, yarn, and string, and see what your child can create.
