With college prices rising each year, it is smart to save as much as you can for college, whether for your children or for yourself.
Start now. The best time to start saving for college is today. Begin a college fund and add to it month by month.
Be frugal. Don't waste your money; recycle and reuse as much as possible. Don't spend money on things you don't need.
Prepare well. Do well in school, be involved in your community and in extracurricular activities, and get work experience. This will not only make you more eligible for scholarships, but also make you a more well-rounded person.
Apply for scholarships and grants. Be in contact with a high school counselor and keep abreast of scholarship and grant deadlines.
Check out colleges. Make on-campus visits and read profiles of the colleges you're interested in. See if they have a pay-now option, where you can pay for your children's tuition now at today's prices, even if your children are not yet college age; and check out their scholarship and financial aid opportunities.
