What Needs to be Included with a Tourist Visa Application

Putting together a tourist visa application can be confusing. Besides completing the actual visa application either online or in hard copy form, there are additional documents that need to be included in the tourist visa application package that you need to bring with you to your US embassy or consulate interview.

Obtain a medical examination slip from an US-embassy-approved doctor. You are required to receive a medical examination stating a clean bill of health along with having received certain inoculations before being allowed to cross US borders. Your specific US embassy or consulate website can give you more information on specific requirements for your country.  In your application package you must include a slip of paper from the doctor stating that you have passed the examination.

Pay the visa processing fee at a local bank and include the payment receipt in your application package. The US embassy website for your country will have more details for you on bank you should visit and the specific visa processing fee for your country and currency.

Obtain the necessary identification and include the originals and copies in your tourist visa application. This includes your official birth certificate and a valid passport.  Your passport should be valid until 6 months after your time in the United States is over.

Request police certificates from every place you have lived since the age of 16 years. This is a letter stating that you have not been involved in criminal activity or have been trouble with the law.  The US does not allow felons to enter the US.

Gather proof that you have no intention to stay in the US. There needs to be no doubt that you will not remain in the US as an illegal immigrant.  You can do this by showing bank statements that you have the financial ability to pay for the entire trip including a round trip ticket home. It helps to include a trip itinerary along with hotel reservations. You should be prepared to show ownership papers of property, homes, and vehicles in your home country.  If you are or your child is a student, provide proof that you are enrolled in and have paid for your next semester at school.
