Don't let ticks scare you away from a hike in the woods. Just do a full-body tick check each night, and follow these tips to remove a tick found lodged in your skin.
Don't squeeze the tick! Similarly, don't crush or pierce the tick's body. This may release diseased fluid into your body.
Grab by the mouthparts. Get a hold of the mouthparts by scraping as close to your skin's surface as possible, using blunt tweezers or looped sewing thread, and gently pull straight up. You don't want to leave the tick's mouthpiece lodged in your skin.
Dispose of tick. You don't want it to get on you again. A good idea is to sandwich the tick in Scotch tape and save it for reference in case you get an infection or disease. Make a note of where on your body the tick was attached, and also mark the date on which you found the tick on you.
