Easter egg hunting is a fun activity for all ages. I've hunted for plastic eggs with family in the backyard, and for hard-boiled eggs with a group of grown-ups and kids on Renaissance faire grounds. Check out these ideas to host your own egg hunt this Easter.
Location
There are numerous places to hold an Easter egg hunt, indoors and outdoors. Consider these options to find the best spot in your area:
- Church yard
- Community center
- Public park
- State land
- Picnic area
- Your backyard
The Eggs
You can have a lot of fun with either plastic or hard-boiled eggs. Hide coins, chocolates, and candy inside the plastic eggs; hold an egg-decorating party before the hunt to paint the hard-boiled eggs.
The Method
You can either have one big hunt, wherein one crafty person hides the eggs – some in difficult spots for older players, and some in easier spots for kids – or have many smaller hunts. In the latter way, it works best if you are just with your family; each family member can take a turn hiding the eggs in the area surrounding your house.
Prizes
You can award prizes for those with the most eggs found: chocolate bunnys, stuffed animals, or other Easter trinkets. The grand prize could simply be the person who finds the plastic egg with the twenty dollar bill hidden inside.
