It’s a useful tool for those who work alone as a single person can measure a distance of over a hundred feet by himself. Laser measuring tape also allows its users to quickly measure the size a room and calculate square footages and volumes. Although the initial price of a good laser measuring tape is more than that of a regular measuring tape, the speed and convenience make a laser measuring tape a good investment.

Here are a few tips what to look for when choosing a laser measuring tape:

• Purpose. Knowing the future purpose of your laser measuring tape will help you save some money. If you need the tape to help you get quick rough estimates and the accuracy is not that critical, you don’t need to spend a lot of money. As the need for accuracy increases, so does the price.
• Accuracy. Accuracy of laser measuring tapes is measured as a width discrepancy over the range of the tape. Some tapes will measure to the nearest inch over 50 feet, while some better laser measuring tapes will say something like +- 1/16 over 100 feet. Know the limitations of your tape. 
• Measuring distance. Cheaper laser measuring tapes will measure from two feet to up to 50 feet. Better tapes will measure from 2 inches to 130 feet or more with extreme precision.
• Extras. Some laser measuring tapes will allow you to take several measurements, store them, and calculate them at the same time. You should also consider the size of a tape and check whether it comes with a case.
