Studying in the United States will be one of the best experiences of your life. Not only do you have the opportunity to attain competitive experience in your field of study and a highly esteemed education, but you can also master the English language and become familiar with US culture. Follow these tips on completing an American student visa application and begin the process of studying in the USA!

Fill Out the Many Necessary Application forms.

The DS-156 Nonimmigrant Visa electronic application form must be completed, along with the DS-158 Contact Information and Work History for Nonimmigrant Visa application.  You should also complete the DS-157 Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa application form.

Make sure that your US embassy or consulate does not require the DS-160 Online application process which takes the place of all of the above forms.

Include the Required Additional Documents.

There are additional documents that must be attached to the application forms. You should gather all transcripts and diplomas from any schools you have attended. You should also include official score reports from any US standardized tests that you have taken such as the SAT, GRE, and TOEFL. You should also include a copy of your birth certificate and police records stating that you have no criminal record.

Provide Proof of Funds.

You will need to include documents confirming your or your parents’ ability to afford any and all costs that you may occur during your time in the US. This includes tuition, rent, transportation, and food. Evidence includes official bank statements or proof of investment returns or regular business revenue.

Pay the Necessary Fees.

You need to pay a nonrefundable visa application and include the receipt with your application package when you submit it. If your student visa is issued you must be prepared to pay a visa issuance fee at the time of your interview in order to receive your visa.

Attend an Interview.

You will be required to attend an interview at the US embassy or consulate office in your home country as part of your visa application process. You will be asked questions pertaining to the nature of your studies, the reason for your studies, and what reasons you have to return to your home country. The US immigration officer interviewing you is looking for any reason you may choose to remain in the US as an immigrant. Make sure to be clear that you are a nonimmigrant simply looking to further your education and master the English language within US borders. At the interview you will also be asked to have your fingerprints scanned.
